Is the Outbreaker Daypack waterproof?
The Outbreaker Daypack is highly water-resistant, so it will not require a rain cover, but not waterproof.
Most rain covers are actually not waterproof. Because they have stitched seams, don't fully inclose the bag, and are made of fabrics with Durable Water Repellent (DWR) coatings, they keep out most of the water most of the time.
Unlike traditional methods that depend on DWR coatings which deteriorate over time, the Outbreaker Daypack is built from a 4-layer, waterproof sailcloth. The sailcloth, combined with water-resistant AquaGuard coil zippers, protects your stuff from water damage. The waterproof materials plus the zippers means that it is highly water-resistant, but because it is a sewn product, it is not as waterproof as a dry bag. Water will eventually make its way through the stitching. You will be fine in most weather conditions, but we don't recommend throwing your bag in a lake. :)
